Robert joined Elmhurst as Artistic Director in autumn 2012, following his retirement as a Principal dancer with Birmingham Royal Ballet. 

Born in Kingston upon Hull, Robert Parker trained at the Royal Ballet School and joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet in 1994 under the directorship of Sir Peter Wright. He received early acclaim when he danced the Second Seminarian in Carmina burana at the Royal Opera House in 1996. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Principal in 1999. He has danced a wide and varied repertoire from the classics to contemporary works, closely collaborating and creating many lead roles with director and choreographer David Bintley and other international choreographers. He has made guest appearances with the Royal Ballet and received various accolades including a Critics' Circle Award in 2003 and an Olivier Award nomination in 2001. 

In 2008 he took a sabbatical and moved to the USA where he successfully acquired his Commercial Pilots' Licence. A year later he returned to his first love of dance, rejoining Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2009 where he continued to perform Principal roles. During this time, he also began teaching at Elmhurst on a regular basis, completed a Master’s degree in Philosophy in Education and was selected to attend the 2012 Rural Retreat for aspiring artistic leaders. After retiring from Birmingham Royal Ballet he passed his RAD Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma with distinction. That same year he was appointed President of the London Ballet Association.

Ivy started her professional ballet training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 1989. In 1993, Ivy graduated as an honorary student with Highest Distinction in her class, and she was awarded the Overseas Scholarship by Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. She has earned a Master's  degree of Business Administration and she was appointed as Associate Executive Director of the Kirov Academy of Ballet Washington DC.

 

She began her career as a professional dancer in the Universal Ballet Company of Korea, Ontario Ballet Theater and the Hong Kong Ballet. She worked with various famous ballet artists: Galina Kekisheva, Roy Tobias, Stephen Jefferies, Wayne Eagling, Galina Ulanova etc. She was also awarded the Favorite Dancer Award thrice by the Friends of Hong Kong Ballet. She has been invited as a ballet teacher and choreographer internationally.

 

In 2002, she founded her own school, Ivy Chung School of Ballet and Ivy’s Ballet Company in Hong Kong. Her productions were invited to perform at the "Hong Kong Original Dance Works Spectacle" of 2010 Hong Kong Dance Festival, the Hong Kong Ballet Group's "Young Ballet Stars Gala Performance", and the Hong Kong Dance Expo 2011. She also obtained the Registered Teacher Status of the Royal Academy of Dance and The Commonwealth Society Teachers of Dancing .She also a mentor of the Certificate of Classical Ballet Teaching Studies. She has served on the jury for many ballet competitions, National Ballet Competition of Taiwan and Malaysia Grand Prix etc.

 

With Ivy's dedication to her students, different recognitions were awarded to her, including: 'Gold Award' in "2009 National Outstanding Arts Teacher Award", 'Elite Society Award' and 'Silver Award' in "The Second Youth Arts Festival - Arts Education", 'Silver Award' in "The Second Toddler Arts Festival - Arts Education", 'Gold Award' in Arts Education and 'Excellent Instructor Award' in the "6th Dé‧Yì‧Shuāng‧Xīn Hong Kong Selection", 'Outstanding Instructor Award' in the "4th China Youth Arts Festival – Hong Kong Selection" awarded by the China Artist Association. Ivy was presented with the Best Choreography Award for Modern Dance Section in the 39th and 40th Hong Kong School Dance Festival. In 2013, Ivy appointed Honorary President of Hong Kong Youth Art Appreciation Association and Adjudicator of Hong Kong Dance Federation.

 

Ivy founded Canaan Dance in 2014, which is an international dance education organization. Under the direction of Ivy, Canaan Dance organizes workshops, auditions and international ballet competition to nurture young dancers in Asia, and provide them with scholarships and opportunities to study professionally abroad. She founded the Star of Canaan Dance International Ballet Competition, which is supported by the American Ballet Theater , Arts Ballet Theater of Florida , Royal Ballet School, the English National Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School, Orlando Ballet School, Kirov Academy of Ballet Washington DC, the Universal Ballet Company of Korea, the Shanghai Dance School , the Vassiliev Academy of Classical Ballet , the Ballet Centre of Fort Worth , the School of Cadence Ballet in Canada , Cheng Ballet in Singapore and Soki Ballet School in Japan.

 

On behalf of Canaan Dance, Ivy is the Audition Director (Asia) of the School of Cadence Ballet, the Vassiliev Academy of Classical Ballet , Ballet Centre of Fort Worth and The Kirov Academy of Ballet (2014 -2017).

 

Ivy’s participate in charity functions.Her students has taken part in performances for charity shows such as "Dancing from our Hearts" and "Si Chuan Earthquake Donation" supported by "the World's Vision", "Dance for Light" organized by "Lifeline Express", "Ginger Bread Dance" organized by "Children's Heart Foundation", "Joyful (Mental Health) Foundation", ballet performance organized by "Against Child Abuse Ltd", and many more.

Linus graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Royal Academy of 

Dance, majored in Ballet and Dance Education. He studied the Russian Vaganova Ballet teaching methodology with Mr. Vladimir Issaev and he is the first Hong Kong teacher to obtain the Teacher's Certificate of Vaganova method. He was awarded with full ballet scholarship at Ivy Chung School of Ballet. He has also received Alumni Association Scholarship for the Arts (Dance and Drama), SKH Lui Ming Choi Secondary School. Funding from the Hong Kong Bank Foundation, Linus was awarded the HKSAR/Mainland Exchange Scholarship, allowing him to have culture exchange with the Liaoning Ballet Company and Shenyang Conservatory of Music. 

Linus has an extensive performing experiences. During his professional training in HKAPA, he has performed “Fragmented Dialogue-Fleeting Moments”, “Dance/lines- Propaganda Ballet”, “Night Falls Fast-of night and other things”,” November Dances-Chopin Suite”, “Carmen” and ballet classicals such as Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty with Hong Kong Ballet Company. Linus took part in numerous stage performances such as "The French May Arts Festival","Cirque de Soleil","Blindates” (Danceart Company),” And Then There’s You” (Hong Kong Arts Festival), ”Community Cultural Ambassador Scheme –Tree in my home”, leading roles of “Sleeping Beauty and Four Seasons”, “Wonderland 2009 & 2010”and Chinese New Year Night Parade (Ivy’s Ballet Company). Linus has played the principal role in “I Believe” ballet performance organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, in which he was also the Rehearsal Director of the show.

He worked as a dance teacher in schools such as La Salle College, Fukien Secondary School, Valtorta College, International Christian School. He has also been invited to the National Zhubei Senior High School Taiwan as a Guest Professor and choreographer. 

Linus is active in choreography work as well. Recently, his work “ Notre Suite Romantique” and ”Hungarian Rhapsody” were both awarded Outstanding Performance and Gold Award of the Hong Kong Open Dance Contest. He was awarded “Outstanding Choreography Award” in the Star of Canaan Dance International Ballet Competition with his work ”The Theory of Everything”,Gold Award with "Finale Suite Romantique"," and Silver Award in Group Dance (choreographed by Linus) in the Hong Kong Ballet Group’s 5th Young Ballet Stars Awards. He also directed different classical ballet such as “Coppelia”,“Swan Lake”, “Paquita” ,“Le Corsaire”,”Les Sylphides” and “Don Quixote”. Linus was Artistic Director of Beyond Dance Company. Under his artistic direction ,Beyond Dance Company was awarded numerous prizes in different dance competitions. 

Linus is now Vice Principal of Ivy Chung School of Ballet and Ballet Master of Ivy's Ballet Company. He is also Ballet Master of Canaan Dance, presenting scholarships from the School of Cadence Ballet, Vassiliev Academy of Classical Ballet and the Kirov Academy of Ballet Washington,DC.


Irene Lo

Guest Ballet Teacher

Irene have her Ballet Full-time training at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing
Art. Irene received her Solo Seal Award in 1994. In 1995, Irene won a scholarship
from the Hong Kong Ballet Group to participate in the 1st “Shanghai International
Ballet Competition”. In 1997, her 3rd year training at the Academy, she was invited to
join The Hong Kong Ballet which she has served the company over 10 years.
Throughout her career with the company, she performed many major roles such as
Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Clara in Nut-cracker, Pu Yi’s first wife in the Last
Emperor and Zhu Yin Tai in Butterfly Lovers which was presented the “Out-standing
Performance of the Year” award by Hong Kong Dance Alliance in 2000, and same
year Irene has awarded the “Most Promising Dancer” by the Friends of Hong Kong
Ballet. She was also invited as a Principal guest artist from 2008-2012 by The Hong
Kong Ballet in their Drama and Ballet project, also invited as a guest artist by some
major dance companies in Hong Kong. In 2011-2014 she was invited to be a guest
teacher in South Africa, Cape town, Johannesburg , also on 2014 and 2016 she was
also invited as a guest artist to teach at the Damansara of Performing Art
Company(DPAC) in Malaysia, also in Medan (Indonesia) . In addition, she is invited
as workshop tutor for the “Asian Grand Prix Summer Intensive Course” from 2012-
2015. Recently, Irene was invited as a guest lecturer for “Dance Enhance 2016” by
Hong kong Dance Alliance and HKU Space to give Dance History Course on 2016.
Furthermore, Irene was the Artistic Co-ordinator and performer of the “Fund Raising
Gala for Japan” in 2011 , Chief Executive Manager of Asian Grand Prix 2013 & 2014
and Executive Director of Asian Grand Prix 2015. She was invited to be a Jury
member at the “Philippine Dance Cup” in Manila in 2012 and 2014, also served as
Judicator at Asian Grand Prix on 2013 and Asian Elite Dance Competition in 2016.
Recently she has work closely Assistant Artistic Director and Choreographer at the
Project of Muse motion in 2013, 2014, and as an Assistant choreographer and guest
performer for LCSD Cultural Embrassor Film and Dance project “The Purple Thread”
by Muse Motion in 2015. Irene also invited as a Guest performer with the artist Juju
Chan dance in the Finale performance of “The Purple Thread” project which is
created by The Director of Muse Motion Allen Lam and a Film director - Anthony
Szeto. Also Irene was the rehearsal director and Principal Artist of Youth Ballet of
Asia from 2010 to 2015.
In 2012 she starred as a guest performer at the “Hong Kong Dance Alliance Awards”,
and was invited as the Mistress of Ceremony at the “Hong Kong Dance Alliance
Awards’ in 2010, 2013 and 2017 , Mistress of Ceremony at AGP award ceremony on
2011- 2015 and also “Dance Day 2017”
Irene’s recent work - Guest artist with HK Artist 狄易達 (Di2da) at Starshow 2016,
“Know your Ballet Music” with Hong Kong Sinfonietta, “The Curious World of
Contemporary Ballet” by HKBallet Plus. Guest Artist and assistant choreographer
with an collaboration project with some oversea artist - “DiviNation” by Muse
Motion, and guest artist and co-choreographer of the Opening show for Artistree -
“ContempoLion”, and starred feature artist at the commercial advertisment for an
traveling promotional film at Qing Tao.

 

Currently, Irene is a faculty member of “The Hong Kong Academy for Performing
Arts” Full-time and GYDP program, Company Ballet Instructor for City
Contemporary Dance Company, House of Dancing Water and 4 Degree Dance
Laboratory. Irene also a certified Yoga , Anti-gravity yoga and Progressive Ballet
training instructor.

Jane Lew

Audition Coordinator (Malaysia)

Founder of DPAC
Jane started dancing at the tender age of nine. She joined the Selangor and Kuala
Lumpur Kwang Si Dance Troupe to enrich her possibilities of contemporary dance.
She then toured with the company around Malaysia, Thailand and China. She
enrolled in New York Joffrey Ballet School in 1990. She has worked with
Choreographer Betteane Terrell and toured around the United States.
Upon her return to Malaysia, Jane obtained her certification of teaching from ISTD
and RAD. In 1992 she started her first dancing school, Dance Space in Klang. Owing
to her rigid and professional principles of teaching, the number of students increased
day by day. By 2007 she opened another branch of Dance Space in Bukit Tinggi,
2009 in Setia Alam and 2010 in Subang, providing students with a well-furnished
practicing space along with well-equipped facilities to enhance their learning
capacity. Jane has been contributing to the dance education and performance in
Malaysia for many years. Her artistic vigour, precise guidance and immense
diligence are important traits of an arts educator. In her twenty two years of teaching
experience, she has trained many excellent dancers and dance instructors in the
industry.
After all, she continues to chase her ambitious expansion into having a professional
stage for performing arts and educational center which is Damansara Performing
Arts Centre (DPAC). Besides promoting performing arts in Malaysia, Jane’s vision
for DPAC is to reduce the gap and enhance the connection arts audiences and
artists have in common. They can be spiritual in nature, greatly improving one’s
quality of living.
